What We Do

Kenneth Hennessy Architects provide a comprehensive and professional range of services covering design, construction and energy-efficiency, across a wide range of building types, in both the private and public sectors in the Irish and UK markets.

We have considerable experience at all Project Stages and our professional and technical staff have the necessary skill sets and expertise to successfully deliver a range of services to our clients.

We work on projects in the residential, commercial, public and voluntary sectors, including individual houses and extensions, housing developments, schools, libraries, public spaces and community facilities.

DESIGN

Conceptual Design, Sketch Design and Detailed Design. Feasibility Studies and Master-planning. Public Realm Design. Interior Architecture and Fit-out Design.

We provide a full range of Architectural Design services from initial Concept Design sketches, through to detailed Interior Design packages.

Architectural Design is at the core of what we do – we bring our design skills and expertise to each and every project, from single room Extensions to large scale Pubic Realm and Master-planning projects.

We use sketches, CAD drawings, 3D computer modelling and physical models to explain our designs to our clients and to ensure that our design concepts are easily understood.

PLANNING

Planning Applications, Planning Appeals, Part 8 Applications.

We are experienced in dealing with complex planning applications in Ireland and the UK and we provide Planning and Development advice to clients throughout all stages of their projects, including First Party and Third Party Planning Appeals.

We use the services of specialist Planning Consultants, Ecologists, Archaeologists and others when specific projects require additional expert advice and opinions.

We have completed Part 8 (public) Planning submissions for Local Authority Housing, libraries, public parks, playgrounds and sports complexes.  A key aspect of our public planning work is the administration of Public Consultation processes on behalf of our public sector clients.

CONSTRUCTION

Site Inspections and Contract Administration. Employer’s Representative.

A comprehensive service at Construction Stage is essential in ensuring that the final project meets all our client’s requirements in terms of Time, Cost and Quality.

A high level of personal involvement and commitment to the construction process is necessary and we provide a comprehensive service across private and public sector construction contracts.  We are experienced in administering the RIAI Conditions of Contract, on private projects and the Public Works Contracts on public sector projects.

We invest a considerable portion of our project fee in the Construction Stage to ensure that this critical phase of each project is fully resourced and that frequent Site Inspections, Site Meetings and Project Reporting are effectively completed.

CONSERVATION

Accredited as Conservation Architects at Grade III, working on Protected Structures and National Monuments.

We provide Conservation-led services on a range of project types, including Protected Structures and National Monuments.  We are experienced in preparing Conservation Reports on Protected Structures of Local and Regional importance and the preparation of Architectural Heritage Impact Assessments.

We are Accredited as Conservation Architects at Grade III by the RIAI and we frequently collaborate with Grade I and Grade II Conservation Architects where in-depth, specialist conservation expertise is required for a particular project.

We assist clients in making applications for a variety of heritage funding schemes and in determining how best to conserve their heritage buildings.

SURVEYING

Condition Surveys, Measured Surveys, Pre-purchase Inspections.

We carry out a range of surveying including the preparation of detailed Measured Survey Drawings (2D and 3D) of existing buildings, including Protected Structures and other heritage buildings.

We complete Pre-purchase Inspections of properties and compile comprehensive Condition Reports detailing the condition of materials, structure, finishes and services.

We engage the services of specialist surveying companies to prepare Topographical Surveys of sites and detailed surveys of roads and as-built services.

HEALTH AND SAFETY

Accredited as Project Supervisor Design Process (PSDP).

Health and Safety is a crucial aspect of construction projects and we provide Project Supervisor Design Process (PSDP) services from the start of our projects.

We co-ordinate Health and Safety throughout the Design Process, ensuring that our projects can be safely constructed and maintained in the future.

We use the Principles of Prevention and the RIAI Safety Management System to ensure that all design aspects of a project are considered at each stage in the process – from initial concept design and site strategy, through to construction and after-build maintenance.

ENERGY EFFICIENCY

Certified Passive House Designer – Passive House Institute (PHI)

We are experienced in the design of low-energy buildings, and have completed many low-energy projects particularly in the residential sector.

We are certified as Passive House Designers by the Passive House Institute (PHI) and can provide designs, calculations and certification services to meet this internationally recognised, performance-based energy standard.

We complete Provisional Building Energy Assessments (BER) on our projects using DEAP software and prepare thermal modelling of details and junctions using Therm software.

CERTIFICATION

Design Certifier and Assigned Certifier BC(A)R 2014

We provide a full range of certification services covering Design,  Planning and Building Regulations.

We act as Design Certifier ensuring that our projects meet all the requirements of the Building Regulations at Design Stage.

We provide RIAI Opinions on Compliance with Planning Permission and / or Exemption from Planning Control for new and existing buildings, in addition to certifying compliance with Planning Conditions.

We act as Assigned Certifier during Construction, ensuring that our completed buildings meet the requirements of the Building Control (Amendment) Regulations 2014 – BC(A)R.
